Sunny Deol had heard about his cousin Abhay Deol‘s plan to collaborate with Imtiaz Ali, and he summoned the filmmaker to discuss it. Imtiaz recalled Sunny Deol saying, “What is happening? This film will be made after my approval,” implying that he would produce the film. However, before meeting Deol, people tried to dissuade Imtiaz by emphasising Deol’s tough, action-hero image.
Nonetheless, Imtiaz proceeded to meet the actor and was given time to present his script when it rained in Shimla. After narrating the script, Sunny Deol agreed to make the film, changing Imtiaz’s perception of him entirely. Imtiaz shared that Sunny Deol turned out to be a very shy and sensitive person, and the stereotype surrounding him was shattered that day.
